Birth Year Coin Collection

Level of Difficulty: Easy

Rate it!

A birth year coin collection involves collecting all the coins possible that were made in a child’s birth year. This is a great start to coin collecting for younger children since it can be accomplished quickly and children will have a sense of satisfaction from completing the “set.” This is a great way for children to start learning about coins, all their special marks and unique images. Get out a magnifying glass and look for all the special markings on the coins, make sure you read about coin basics and pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters for some great information about U.S. coins.

Here's how to make it...

Make a chart, either by hand or using a computer, with a space for each coin you want to collect. You may only want to collect a penny, nickel, dime and quarter. If you want to include a half dollar and dollar you may find one at a bank, or you can buy one at a coin store or online. Tape each coin on the chart as it is collected.
